What d'ya say? Open what?

D'you notice that when you speak 'bout OSS, most of the listerns think "oh yeah! it's free! i will be in my budget and, maybe, i can do a markup! ye!!! party!"
It's a little bit curious don't ya think?
Well, i came from a company named Datamat, and, ok, it was not perfect, but it was a company where IT was the core business. When a firm has to do money with "services", usually it looks for something that can decrease costs, so it can increase its markup. That environment was not the heaven, but, yeah, i played with in a lot of crazy project with all these OS stuffs. 2 years ago a great group company, maybe the first in italy, has bought my little company (well... not so little at all), and in 2 years i've realized many thinks: a great shark doesn't respect a little goldfish, Opensource is meaning Cheap and Free, IT is a sort of vaporware.
I've spoken with some manager, and with my new co-workers, and when i've told'em that my infrastructure was made with OS stuffs they say: "where's the security?" "oh yeah, you can't manage it", "well yes, it's time to stop to have fun and to do real business with this brand new Checkpoint Firewall growup". Maybe they don't have clear the meaning of Opensource. This kind of mentality, of way of thinking, it's not made upon the concept that all it's free, all it's a kinda of game, all it's made by a little geek-lamer behind its thik glasses in front of and old fashionable monitor. They think that.

But maybe nones tell'em that OSS, oh what the hell, OpenSource way of life, it's not simple a way to use something, it's a way to figure out some solution! and doesn't matter if the application is mine, yours or whatelse. The only think that care (in my opinion), it's finding a solution! Find a quest and its answer, and when you don't find a quest, well, create it! In a freemind thinking without any restriction. And when you don't find a solution, fuck off, you are able to do yours on your own! and, if you believe in free spirit, in the comunity, you can share your damn solution! This is not only a way of business, this is a way of life, where the lesson it's simple: you don't know how to do that? what fuck do it on your own! evolve yourself, fight with the machine and beat it. fight against your limits and beat'em !!

Here's why i don't like anymore this company, it's too old for me, too slow, there's no speed, no evolving... well it's just too fucking obsolete! firt of all in the mind
